WASHINGTON -- A Republican congressman from Georgia who referred to Barack and Michelle Obama as "uppity" says he wasn't aware of the term's racial overtones and did not intend to insult anyone.Speaking to reporters Thursday, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland of Grantville, Ga., described the Obamas as members of an "elitist-class ... that thinks that they're uppity," according to The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper.Asked if he intended to use the word, he said, "Yeah, uppity."In a statement Friday, Westmoreland - who was born in 1950 and raised in the segregated South - said he didn't know that "uppity" was commonly used as a derogatory term for blacks seeking equal treatment. Instead, he referred to the dictionary definition of the word as describing someone who is haughty, snobbish or has inflated self-esteem."He stands by that characterization and thinks it accurately describes the Democratic nominee," said Brian Robinson, Westmoreland's spokesman. "He was unaware that the word had racial overtones, and he had absolutely no intention of using a word that can be considered offensive."The Obama campaign had no immediate response.Westmoreland is one of the most conservative members of Congress. He has drawn criticism from civil rights advocates on a number of issues, including last year when he led opposition to renewing the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also was one of two House members last year who opposed giving the Justice Department more money to crack unsolved civil rights killings.

My Note:
I am working on a post about the racial subtext of this campaign. It is clear that today's Republican Party are the institutional desendants of George Wallace and Richard Nixon. I think the visuals from their convention pretty much made that case, but just in case they didn't, consider this tidbit: Governess Palin reportedly said the following about Obama's victory over Hillary: " So Sambo beat the bitch.....". Of course I'm sure that a nice "Christian" woman like our dear Sarah would never ever ever say such a thing......... but we'll see what the next few weeks teach us.

Inside The Media Elite

Sitting here tonight in media control room in DC reflecting on my apparent status as a member of the East Coast Media Elite, or ECME. I didn't realize until very recently (this week in fact) that I am a member of this organization. So thanks Governor Church Lady! If you don't mind though I have some questions:

I am wondering where to get an official ID card .... maybe it could have a picture of Cambell Brown in her swimsuit on one side, with a nice ECME logo on the other? (No Wolf Biltzer or Howard Fineman in speedos please!)

Is it OK if I prefer Merlot to Chardonnay? Plus do I have to eat Brie? Would Chedar be OK or is that too Red State? (I understand that Cheese Wiz is out for obvious reasons).

I didn't go to an Ivy league school, but I did visit Harvard once; so can I still be in the ECME? I do read books, and have been to Europe more than once....so that should cancel out the fact that I know how to bowl shouldn't it?

While I live in very blue Maryland I have a condo in super red South Carolina, but one of these
hurricanes may solve that problem any minute now, so I can still be in the club right?

I really don't do punditry as such on air, but do talk back to the Tee Vee quite a bit so that still counts right?

By the way snarky Church Lady, once I get my nifty ID card, do I get a discount on my communist party dues? Ten percent off on Astro Glide at Sams Club?

And lastly, just for clarification.... I assume from your overall remarks that membership in the ECME means that I'm not really an American anymore right? So do I still have to pay taxes? Please let me know as soon as possible as that could impact my ability to buy more Merlot and cheese.

Did I mention just how old and white that crowd was? It looked like a Promise Keepers rally that just got back from a sale on extra wide dockers at the outlet mall. 

The yah-boobs thrusting cowboy hats in the air in time to some music will make a perfect video for someone to inter-cut NAZI Sieg Hiel scenes with. Trust me, that should be on YouTube before the day is over.

Well well well...just back from the beach and what do I find? It seems that the PTA Lady is just full of surprises. I gather that either she had the baby in April, or her daughter did and the Governess of Alaska Lady pretended  it was hers, and or the teen tart is preggers again. Oh and BTW the kids are all named Trig, and Twig, and Stig and Donder and Blitzen or some fucking thing. Oh..and the Lunch Lady thinks that George Washington wrote the Pledge of Allegiance. And when she was mayor of Fish Head she almost got impeached or recalled, or whatever the fuck they call it in nanook land. And did I mention we don't know who the teen slags boy pal is..except his name is Levi? Levi??? Are we sure it isn't ..( cue organ sting music ) John McCain?? Well? I'm just asking.......  that might be the only thing that explains what this nutbag with a nice rack ( and I don't mean antlers ) is doing on the ticket.
